Join Us For Next Year's Festival! J.P. Fraley's Mountain Music Gatherin' Carter Caves State Resort Park
A Big Thanks for 2011! I want to thank the staff of Carter Caves State Resort Park for all their help with the Fraley Festival this year. Their help with getting it organized, preparing the park, preparing for the dedication, running the sound system, and just all around good support is greatly appreciated. All of you who played on stage, in workshops, or jam sessions are a big part of this festival as are all of you who come to listen and I think you for your participation. I want to recognize the MCs for the evening concerts – Doug Smith, Alan Freeman, Nancy McClellan, Billy Cornette, and Tom Duffee. Andrew Bevan has been thanked elsewhere for the video tribute to J.P. and Annadeene, but he also puts together the flyer/program, the website and the cards with the new name of the festival. Floyd Alexander was greatly appreciated for his microphone management. When there are 18 different groups getting on and off stage, that is a busy job. My Corndrinker buddies do all kinds of things to keep things smooth and I feel like the luckiest person in the world to have them at the festival. I look forward to working with and seeing you all back next year for the Fraley Festival of Traditional Music. – Barb Kuhns
Name change in 2012 - We want to continue having this festival to celebrate and preserve traditional music of the area. This seems like a reasonable time to change the name of the festival to honor both J.P. and Annadeene Fraley’s efforts of previous years. Beginning in 2012, the festival will be known as the Fraley Festival of Traditional Music. The same organizers will continue to plan and prepare for it. There are no plans at this time to make other major changes. We appreciate the support of musicians and festival-goers over the years to make this festival what it is and hope to continue to make it a festival you want to attend.
Amphitheater Dedication The State of Kentucky had a special dedication to honor J.P. and Annadeene Fraley by changing the name of the amphitheater to the Annadeene and J.P. Fraley Amphitheater. Annadeene was the Director of the festival 1971-1995 and planned the workshops and organized and MC’d the concerts. (Currently it takes at least 5 of us to do what she did by herself.) J.P. played the fiddle and told stories both on and off stage. His fiddling was a big attraction to fiddlers who came to learn tunes from and play along with him. Much good music and fun were had over the years due to their efforts and it seems fitting that the amphitheater will now bear their names. |
